Professor Margaret Alston, B.Soc. Stud (Syd), Dip. Comp. Applic. (RMIHE), M. Litt (UNE), PhD (UNSW) assumed duties as Head of Department in July 2008. Prior to commencing at Monash she was Professor of Social Work and Human Services and Director of the Centre for Rural Social Research (a subprogram of the Institute of Land, Water and Society) at Charles Sturt University. She is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney. She has served on a number of Boards including the Foundation for Australian Agricultural Women, Family Services Council. Family and Community Services Department in Canberra and the National Women's Advisory Group overseeing the Rural Women's Policy Unit in the Department of Primary Industries and Energy.
In 2008 she was appointed to the Australian delegation attending the Commission for the Status of Women meeting in New York. In 2009, 2007 and 2003 she has spent time as a visiting expert in the Gender Division of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation in Rome. She has also acted as a gender expert for UN-Habitat in Kenya in 2009. She has published widely in the field of rural gender and rural social issues. She has been a keynote speaker at a number of national and international conferences over the last several years and is sought out for media commentary on the rural social condition, and on climate change and gender issues.

Broadcasting Services Department in Hong Kong Jockey Club has grown from a team of 13 people in 1993 to a team of over 130 full time and over 150 part-time staff. The Broadcasting Services Department is the best equipped and the largest TV production team in a non-broadcasting organization in Asia.
Starting with HKTVB in 1976, Oonagh Chan is an expert in TV program packaging for both live sports event coverage to spinning feature infotainment stories for athletes and behind the scene personalities. She is also an expert in TV production system design and AV system design including sound reinforcement system, digital signage, venues TV distribution system, and large video screen for sports venues In 2015 July, the Broadcasting Services Department’s new TV centre was opened after 6 years of planning. The new TV Centre has three TV studios, post production centre, sound recording booths and 7.1 Mixing studio, digital library, presentation and master control room. It is a fully equipped TV production facilities producing 7600 hours of program annually. Oonagh was involved in the planning and architectural design process working closely with the architect – Architectronica and later also developed the cable management system used for the building.
Oonagh has been acquainted with racing TV production since 1981 when she started to build the live TV production system at Macau Trotting Club, since then she has worked in racing TV production and managed racing related production units and facility development in Macau, New South Wales Racing Circuit –Australia, Hong Kong. She worked in Channel 10 Sydney for “Perfect Match” in 1986 and in SBS News in 1988 for a short period of time before returning to HK.

In that role, she is responsible for all content across the company’s three free-to-air channels – TEN, ELEVEN and ONE – and the online catch-up and streaming service tenplay. The Programming, Production, Research, Marketing and Promotions departments report into Beverley.
Beverley joined Network Ten as Network Head of Programming in 2006 from TV3 in New Zealand, where she was Director of Programming for two years.

One of my key achievements to date was the successful FOX SPORTS “Transformation Project”. The project involved the implosion of the old ABC Building and the rebuilding of a brand new FOX SPORTS HQ at Gore Hill. Working closely with a talented technology team we successfully relocated Fox Sports into a purpose built facility on time and on budget.
For a number of years prior to taking on the role of Director of Broadcasting, I had a dual role of Director, Television Services & Human Resources. This experience has really made me understand the important role that each and every person plays in their own deliverables and how critical everyone is in ensuring the customer gets a seamless quality experience.

Melanie Withnall is the Managing Director of 2SER 107.3. She is also on the board of the Community Brodcasting Association of Australia.
She started her radio career in her local community radio station, 20 years ago, and volunteered at 2ser when she was studying for her communications and international studies degree at UTS.
She has worked as a producer, executive producer and journalist at 2GB and 2UE for many years. She was the Executive Producer of the Stan Zemanek program for many years, and has also worked with John Laws, Chris Smith, Philip Clark, Jason Morrison and many others. She was the executive producer of Mornings with Deborah Cameron t 702 ABC Sydney before she joined 2SER 4 years ago.
Melanie has also dabbled in television, film and magazines, and was a fulltime lecturer at AFTRS in the radio division (where she still gives guest lectures), and has tutored and lectured at UTS. She lived and worked in Russia.
She has a Graduate Diploma in Commercial Radio from AFTRS and a Bachelor of Communications/Bachelor of International Studies and Masters in International Studies (Russian) from UTS.
